Neck ties have been a part of men’s fashion ever since it was conceived of in the 1860′s, stemming from the French cravat, which is a cloth usually made of silk is used to hold together the opening of men’s shirt in the 16th century. During the 1860′s, neck ties have the same function as the cravat, but the difference is that the neck tie is narrow from the knot down to the tail. Then its use evolved by the turn of the century and became an official part of a man’s three piece suit. Today, ties are not exclusively worn by men and are not just used to compliment a man’s formal attire, or used only whenever a man wants to look professional, it is also used by women to accessorize their outfit. Avril Lavigne has been known for her use of the tie, she used it as an accesory and made it a part of her trademark look. More celebrities are using neck ties to accessorize their outfits and it has now been known as more of an accessory rather than just a part of men’s three piece suit.
