If you are someone who loves caring for people and is, at the same time, thinking of a career that involves this love somehow, then consider becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. This is certainly a position you would enjoy and earn at the same time.
For those who don’t know what a Licensed Practical Nurse is, we will look at the vocation in more detail here. A Licensed Practical Nurse, or LPN, can be found in many different settings in the health care industry. They are often found working for physicians, in clinics or hospitals, or even in private home health care. In facilities that require long term health care, they are often the ones assisting nursing assistants and orderlies.
While LPN training is not as technical, long, or wide in range as the training a Registered Nurse, or RN, would have to undergo, a Licensed Practical Nurse does still have to go through some training and pass a board exam. The training of an LPN differs in the different countries around the world but there are some similarities. Nowadays many countries offer online LPN training too. They all have to train anywhere from twelve to thirty six months, have some practical application as a trainee, and pass a board exam after graduating. They also have to maintain a clean record and graduate from an approved accredited practical nursing program. This prevents fly-by-night schools from taking advantage of students. Studies and practical application are usually limited to changing bandages and drawing blood samples.
Restrictions have tightened for those who want to become Licensed Practical Nurses but those who do push through and pass all the requirements tend to proceed to a full nursing degree. Although this is becoming a trend, a lot of Licensed Practical Nurses take their training and stay in that practice for many years, fully satisfied.
